St. Louis, Missouri — October 1, 2018: Midwest Puppy is excited to announce the changes to its corporate organization. Having filed for Midwest Puppy and Trainer, LLC doing business as Midwest Puppy and Midwest Puppy and Handler, the organization is taking on a larger educational role as well as expanding its contest.

With the approval of Midwest Puppy and Handler (MWPH) as a regional representative of International Puppy and Handler (IPAHW), MWPH will offer two workshops throughout the region. These two exciting workshop weekends will be The Midwest Spring Fling in April in Chicago, IL and the Midwest Fall Ball in August/September in St. Louis. These educational weekends will focus on Puppy and Handler specific educational sessions and will have many social offerings as well.

In addition, Midwest Puppy has added a handler portion to its contest starting in 2019 that will be accepted to run for International at IPAHW.

Currently under the ownership of Christopher (Papa Woof) Roth, Puppy Boo, Daddy John and Pup Scout, the Midwest Puppy Contest and Midwest Puppy and Handler Contest is a part of the Midwest Leather weekend. As one of the oldest puppy contests, the Midwest Puppy Contest is one of the first and largest regional Puppy contests.
Midwest Puppy and Handler will be representing 15 states including – Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio & Oklahoma. The purpose of the Contest is to annually choose a winner to represent the included Midwest States with the conferred titles of Midwest Puppy and Handler. Its mission is to promote fun, friendship and safety in the Human Pup & Handler Community.

We talked to Pup Scout, one of the owners of MWPH, and got a little more insight on the weekend:

Who are the previous Midwest puppies?

Pup Hercules – 2012/2013
Pup Frogger – 2013/2014
Pup Helmut – 2014/2015
(we did not have a titleholder this year) 2015/2016
Pup Gungnir – 2016/2017
Pup Axel – 2017/2018

If this contest is a feeder to another contest which is it?

Effective as of October 1st 2018, Midwest Puppy and Handler is an official feeder to International Puppy and Trainer Contest (IPTC). Which means, you guessed it, beginning in 2019 we will begin offering the title of Midwest Handler!

Why is Midwest Puppy and Handler so important, and how do we get more people to see the importance of it?

The Midwest Puppy and Handler Contest is important in the same way that any contest is important; we offer an opportunity for individuals to actualize their platforms for the betterment of Puppy and Handler Community. We (the owners of the contest) realize that there are a plethora of budding community leaders in our region and we hope to provide a “leg-up” for those who wish to spread their messages throughout the Midwest and beyond!

The best way that we can gain the attention and support from others is to just keep doing what we have been; I.e. stay visible, continue to advocate for our beliefs, and continue to host (and support) social as well as educational events. We think that the real key in making sure that you (the community) invests in our future is to invest in yours.

Our mission is to annually choose a winner to represent the Midwest States with the conferred titles of Midwest Puppy and Handler. We hope to promote fun, friendship and safety in the Human Pup & Handler Community.

What are the expectations of the Midwest Puppy and Handler?

Our expectations are fairly relaxed, we believe in confiding in our titleholders and letting them blaze their own path.

As for “official” requirements:

-We expect our winners to conduct themselves as a positive role model for other Pups or those curious of the Puppy Community
-The Winner is required to do a minimum of 4 fundraising events – 1 for MWPAH and 3 for their own travel fund
-Attend a minimum of 3 other Leather, Puppy or Fetish events

What sets the Midwest contest apart from others?

In addition to Midwest Puppy being one of the oldest and longest standing regional contests we are also the largest, covering 15 states; those states being Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Ohio & Oklahoma.

Additionally, our contest owners and producers stem from many different kink/fetish communities. These include the ABDL and ageplay community, the furry community, and the gear fetishist community; this creates a largely inclusive environment. To ensure our unbiased and socially balanced ideals are upheld, each year while selecting our judging panel we make a point to include individuals from all walks of life in efforts to provide a more equitable experience for our contestants.

The annual Midwest Leather Weekend will take place on October 5, 6 and 7, 2018 at JJ’s Clubhouse, St Louis, Missouri. The highlight of the weekend is the combination Mr Midwest Leather Contest and Midwest Puppy and Handler, held Saturday night, October 6. But the Weekend is more than just the two contests. There’s social events Friday, Saturday and Sunday, open to all members of the kink community – experienced or beginning.
